The new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has various engines engineered for various tasks. The engines include a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that offers 310 horsepower with 420 pounds of torque on the base trims. This powertrain is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with a standard rear-wheel-drive system. However, the four-wheel drive system is optional.

A 5.3-liter V8 engine offering 355 horsepower and 383 pound-ft of torque is also available. For this specific engine model, a 10-speed automatic transmission ensures swift gear shifting. This powertrain is available in the latest Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High-Country trims. With the 5.3-liter machine, the Silverado can tow a maximum of 11,500 pounds.

A 6.2-liter V8 engine offering 420 horsepower and 460 pound-ft of torque is also available. This 6.2-litre uses a quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission to connect to the four-wheel drive system. It is found in ZR2, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trims.

The 6.2-liter V8 engine offers a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 pounds. Both V8 engines have a dynamic fuel management system that can deactivate up to six engine cylinders when doing light duties, thereby decreasing fuel consumption. The 6.2-litre engine offers a fuel economy of 16 to 21 mpg.

A 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that gives 305 horsepower with 495 pounds of torque is also available. A ten-speed automatic transmission Is standard, with either an all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive system being available. This engine model is available in custom Trail Boss, LT, LT Trail Boss, RST, LTZ, High country and ZR2 trims.
